Explore the Fading Coast of the Graylands with Crypthios

Simeon Popov returns to Cryo Chamber with his second Crypthios album, Fading Coast. A little over one year has elapsed since the Crypthios debut album, Vestigium, and our exploration continues where the first installment ended. Crypthios has crafted a world of far-future decay - of ruined cityscapes and desolate lands, fallen to some unknown entropy and decay, and we follow a lone survivor as they travel away from their home, New City, the last city of man, and voyage across the Raging Sea to the Graylands.

Drum rhythms and a pulsing timbre begin our second adventure, slowly evolving into subtle pads and a warming haze of textures, our lone sojourner has arrived on a deserted beach, with strange structures reaching skyward on the horizon, and immediately before him are coral-like structures, alien and strange, and our journeyman engages for a closer look.

The design of this album is meant not to stand out, but rather to be an accompaniment to the mental imagery of the listener’s imagination. An audio story is being told, and the atmospheric shifts of music help to guide the mental narrative with shifts between loud and boisterous and subtle and soft musings. Beautiful choir pads and layers hover about, while field recordings keep the listener tethered to the ground; a desolate expanse, alien, and filled with life, and the entire album keeps the feeling of mystery present throughout. Crypthios displays a distinct method of dynamic with audio storytelling, never relying on one singular presentation method, but utilizing the full range of timbre to tell the story of isolation and exploration.

Fading Coast is available in CD Digipak and digital formats on the Cryo Chamber Bandcamp page.
