The titles open on a black screen as we hear a robbery taking place - a bank robbery. A heist has gone awry, and we are along for the aftermath, the minutes and days afterward, to be more precise.

This film takes the timeline of Ned Kelly, starting with his impoverished upbringing in the Australian wilds, to the Kelly Outbreak, with his gang fighting Australian authorities.

This film is a bleak portrayal of life at its most banal - whether through fleeting moments of abject despair, or through the merciless machinations of cosmic circumstance, this poor guy, Ned Kelly, was born into poverty, and if this film is to be believed, never once experienced a single happy moment for the remainder of his life.
