Take a Trip into a Dream with Dead Melodies

“Behind closed eyes, lost worlds enshrined

In an endless maze of mind's design

A welcome lure to unknown fate

Where forgotten memories lay in wait

Rays of hope consumed by fear

Mind enthralled, sleep's puppeteer

Subconscious worlds, old fires burn

From whence I wake, to never return”

Solemn lines of poetry herald the beginning of our audio journey with the new Dead Melodies album, Memento, a trek through the miasma of the dreamscape. Composer Tom Moore gave us one of my personal favorite albums last year, with Fabled Machines of Old - scope and narrative are not lost on the mind of this artist. This newest album takes us on a sojourn into the fantastical realm of dreams; into worlds and folds reality touched by faint memory, yet shaped by the subconscious, much the same way the music of Dead Melodies is presented. Resonant drones swell and fade, while sweeping pads waft on the breeze of the periphery, giving us the feeling of drifting along the very waves of the tides of a dream; never quite in control of what is to happen, or what we will see, but merely along to bear witness to the events unfolding.

The chords and tones used in this album are not sad, nor are they imposing or intimidating, they are simply “there”, for lack of a better word. There is no underlying imposing feeling of dread, nor is there a sense of overwhelming joy - the music is just simply content to be, and the masterful use of the ambient pads allow the listener to simply be, as well.

Memento is an excellent addition to the Dead Melodies catalog, and fans of more relaxed, ethereal atmospheres in their droning ambience will certainly find this album a welcome addition to their libraries.

Dead Melodies Memento can be purchased on the Cryo Chamber Bandcamp page in CD Digipak and digital formats
