Traverse the Void with Alphaxone

Longtime Cryo Chamber contributor and artist Alphaxone returns with The Infinite Void, a layered, languorous trip through the depths of space. Composer Mehdi Saleh is one of the longest acts among the Cryo Chamber roster, and every release has the familiarity of his composition style, yet each standing on their own merits of uniqueness.

The album begins with a dull, resonating thrum, while an oscillating synth cascades over the top, and each new layer of texture introduced throughout each new track, and the entirety of this album, is done so with painstaking deliberation; this is a relaxation tool, or perhaps a mental tether to a plane of thought beyond… eerie field recordings of spoken radio controllers and telemetry apparatuses barely audible in the distance help give a sense of a dream-like state, but of one grounded in this universe, in this plane of existence - one of those instances where the listener hears something, and their mind meanders along that path, however, as they try to focus on the sounds, the sounds never quite coalesce, leaving the listener wandering among the chords and drones, which seems to be precisely where Alphaxone wants them.

The subtleties of the sound design in this album are unique and layered with each one creates an ambient flow through the mind’s eye, an aural eddie that does not seek to impose itself upon the listener’s attention, but rather to simply be, and the listener can ride upon the currents of the sounds and accept their own interpretations of the music. Some moments of the album allude to the sense of wide-open vacuum, an expanse of nothingness but a starline, while other tracks, such as Ashes of Time, almost feel as if the listener is in an orrery, inside a colossal theater, where these pulses and tunes bounce among the angles and geometries of the vast architecture around them. Ultimately, The Infinite Void is what listeners of this style of space ambient want, and Alphaxone is always the artist to deliver. The Infinite Void is available on September 6, 2022 in CD digipak and digital formats on the Cryo Chamber Bandcamp page.
