Explore the Ruins of Extinction with Void Stasis

New to the Cryo Chamber roster is Void Stasis, presenting their debut offering, Ruins. Although Void Stasis is a new act, its members are longtime composers hailing from the electronic and industrial spectrum of music, Kristoff Bathory (Dawn of Ashes), Scott Denman (Die Sektor) and Marie Hedonia. Eschewing their respective styles and musical inclinations, Void Stasis is an ambient and explorative extension of their collective muses, and Ruins, I am happy to write, is an excellent debut of a sci-fi, synth musical journey.

Ruins opens with an inquisitive and slowly expanding palette, as the songs weave from one another, each one different, and yet despite the diverse sounds, they are all cohesive within the mix, with pads drones, and stringed accentuations that help give a percussive element to the tracks. There are moments of passivity during the songs, followed by moments of intrigue, even some trepidation, all helping guide the album along its narrative, that of our planet drifting into an alien atmosphere and enduring the process of human extinction. There is a timbre of hard sci-fi, certain musical cues and passages that bring to mind favorite novels I have read, and even films and video games.

The industrial elements are nearly ever-present within the confines of the music, which is to be expected considering the persons involved, but the rhythms are subdued and carefully guided, never allowing the atmosphere to be broken. In all, this is an excellent, atmospheric sci-fi journey and I hope to hear more from Void Stasis in the future. You can (and should!) purchase Ruins in CD Digipak and digital format on the Cryo Chamber Bandcamp page.
