'Witness Infection' is Horror Comedy on a Roll!
If you’re craving a movie that is like Goodfellas meets Shaun of the Dead, look no further than Witness Infection. Directed by Andy Palmer (Camp Cold Brook) and written by Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko’s Modern Life, Reno! 911, The Funhouse Massacre) and Jill-Michele Melean (MAD TV, Reno! 911, Taco Shop) , this movie is one you definitely want to sink your teeth into.
In the little town of Temecula, California trouble is simmering. Unknowingly, the FBI has placed two rival mob families in the same city. The Serrellis and the Miolas have a long-standing blood feud that can only be squashed if Mr. Serrelli’s younger son Carlo marries Mr. Miola’s daughter Patricia and gives him a grandson. Think Romeo and Juliet except the star-crossed lovers hate each other’s guts. Carlo’s older brother Dominic is upset because Patricia is his girl, so he gives Carlo all sorts of static, mostly because Carlo wants nothing to do with the “Family Business,” and prefers to work in his sweetheart Gina’s dog grooming parlor, and hang out with Vinnie, who is trying to break into the movie business..
Add to all of this a mysterious illness overtaking the town after they grab a bite to eat at Tablioni’s, and you are in for a gore-met feast. The zombie effects are fantastic; a great blend of practical and CGI. You can tell the cast had an absolute blast working on this with the way they attack their roles… and their victims.
One of my favorite scenes takes place in the bar where our heroes meet up with Rose, or La Rosa De Vengence, who makes an impassioned speech on the history of people of color being the first to die in so many different horror movies, and how she is not going to go out like that.
