Synthwave Sages The Midnight Release Single 'Deep Blue' and Announce New Album 'MONSTERS'

To set it plainly, The Midnight represents the cream of the Synthwave crop. Since the debut EP Days of Thunder, The Midnight has carefully crafted classic after classic, culminating in their forthcoming release MONSTERS on July 10th via Counter Records. Tyler Lyle and Tim McEwan possess an ability to evoke feelings both familiar and forgotten. To explore places, you can’t quite remember, yet subconsciously crave. The band themselves would direct you to the Japanese term ‘Mono no aware’: the aching awareness of impermanence. A rhythmic reflection on the passing of time and the realization that nothing lasts forever. But these times can be revisited in memories and — thanks to The Midnight — music.

If you’re still missing out on The Midnight, grant yourself a favor and dive deep into that discography. It won’t be long before you’re transported. Music conjures different strokes for different folks, but for me, the melodies of The Midnight are a time machine into an alternative dystopian past. Or at this rate, future. With vocals that seamlessly shift from soothing to haunting and a Sax with supernatural powers, the Synthwave Sages are sure to summon up some feels.

Endless Summer, the first full-length album, would certainly be a good place to start. However, if you’re eager to get started and reading this anyway, the video to the latest single Deep Blue is embedded below. This first showing from Monsters is among the ranks of Sunset, Crystalline, Vampires, and Lost Boys on the list of legendary The Midnight singles.

MONSTERS is available on July 10th on Counter Records.
